Welcome to Finally Choosing Me — a place for women who have spent years being everything to everyone else and are beginning to wonder, Who am I when I’m not taking care of everyone?

For most of my adult life, I knew exactly who I was in relation to everyone else. I was a wife, a mother, a daughter, a nurse, a caregiver, a problem solver, and usually the person trying to hold everything together. Somewhere along the way, though, I realized I had spent so much time taking care of everyone else that I wasn’t entirely sure who I was when nobody needed something from me.

Finally Choosing Me grew out of the realization that choosing yourself isn’t selfish, and it doesn’t mean you stop loving or caring for the people in your life. It means learning that you deserve some of that same attention, patience, forgiveness, and care too. For me, that has meant learning boundaries, starting over, rediscovering my confidence, figuring out what I actually like, and sometimes laughing at the absolute chaos along the way.

Here, I’ll share the real stories behind that journey—the wins, the mistakes, the grief, the weight loss, the boundaries, the tattoos and purple hair, the joys of starting over, the realities of getting older, and the everyday adventures of a house full of family and animals. Some stories are serious. Some are messy. Some are funny. Most are probably a little bit of all three.

I’m still figuring it out. I don’t have a perfect roadmap, and I’m definitely not here because I have all the answers. I started on a journey to find myself, and somewhere along the way I realized I’d like some company. So if you’re learning to set boundaries, starting over, rediscovering yourself, or simply wondering when it gets to be your turn, you’re welcome here.

Maybe we can figure out what choosing ourselves looks like together.

Because sometimes knowing you’re not alone is powerful.
